Where we Stand on The Environment
April 22nd, 2008 @ 8:07 am by zymetricHere at Zymetrical we care deeply about the world we live in. We know that many of you care about that as well, so today seems the perfect day to outline our commitments and a few of the things we are doing to help.
Partly to reduce consumption (and costs), but mostly because it gets so damn hot in this metal building we try to leave as many overhead lights off as possible, weather & daylight permitting. For the same reasons, we are also very diligent about not leaving computer monitors on when away from our respective desks. Additionally we try to turn the air conditioner to the lowest setting possible, and normally only use that a few weeks out of year in late summer.
Moreover, we promise that we will never, ever use styrofoam packing peanuts to fill orders unless those are received by us in a customer return. Not tomorrow, not next week, not ever.
Currently we recycle 100% of all the plastic bottles, aluminum, and glass we consume. Everything that can be recycled is. We also try to find as many creative uses for paper as well — for example, all of the wax paper that our shipping labels come on are used as filler.
All in all we re-use more than 1/2 of all of the cardboard & paper that enters our warehouse for packaging or stocking. The remaining 1/2 of surplus cardboard which is generally unusable for packing is instead donated to a local Ministry who recycles cardboard to fund clothes & food drives. All in all, less than 1% of our cardboard is deemed unsalvagable and actually ends up in a landfill.
While it is highly unlikely that we will ever impact the world in any significant way, we can make sure that we have as little impact on it as possible. We aren’t there yet, but our goal is to become the first zero-waste novelty company, if you don’t count all the fake crap we sell as waste that is.
