When must you update your website copyright?

January 10th, 2009 @ 3:03 pm by brian

At what point should you update your copyright to 2009? Our store copyright updated automatically at Midnight, but that’s because were’ anal-retentive and used a tiny bit of code. But we didn’t think to update the copyright here until today.

Obviously most people would take a website that is showing a 2007 or worse, 2007 copyright less seriously, but at what point in the current year should it be changed? February?

It is January 10th, and google & yahoo just changed their copyright in the last couple of days. As of this afternoon Youtube is still showing 2008, as our a number of sites.

Understandably if design isn’t done in-house it requires a 3rd party, but otherwise it should be as simple as changing one digit in your footer file, if not adding a simple bit of code. And if you are using static pages than you have to use code if you want to stay on top of it. It can be easily done in VBscript, ASP.net, javascript, php, ruby, or just about any other code.

So the question begs, have you changed yours?
